Go Goa-2004 (Day 2)

http://restlesssouls.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/untitled-2.jpg

Then at around 9 we decided to begin the day. We had bought tickets for a conducted tour from the Tourist Hostel in Vasco the day before, and we had to be there before 10. A quick bath and we arrived at the designated place and waited for the rest of the crowd to arrive. It was a small bus sans air-conditioning…Deepa was delighted because it meant she could have an unobstructed view of the surroundings without a glass window …

Go Goa – 2004 (Day 3 and 4)

We had tea and toast and lazed around in bed till about 9.30. With no fixed agenda for the day, we thought of going a little easy on ourselves…already every inch of our bodies was aching from the swimming and walking. Deepa suddenly remembered that we’d been forgetting something very important – souvenirs. We quickly made a list of all our friends for whom we had to take back souvenirs and the list got longer and longer…colleagues, bosses, cousins, relatives, …

Diwali at Bhimtal – I

http://restlesssouls.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/jam.jpg?w=300

The Diwali weekend of November 2007 saw us taking off to the hills of Bhimtal on NH 24. I was the only one of the lot to have gone there before. But that was on a hurried official trip by train to Kathgodam and thereafter by bus to Country Inn Resort. We’d stayed in pretty cottages and had pool-side meals. The location of Country Inn is pretty good. We decided to drive up in our car and on the morning …

Diwali at Bhimtal-II

http://restlesssouls.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/ganga-ji-ka-pul.jpg?w=300

Finally, there it was… Gangaji ka pul! We all let out whoops of joy as the bridge came into view. The hordes were making their way to the sandy bed to perform puja, apparently. We sped on and soon found ourselves back on the highway again. Next agenda was … FOOD. Romy and Pranjal attacked their plates with relief and vigour. Our joy proved to be short-lived though. Our next set of woes started at Rampur from where the apology …

The Rishikesh Experience

http://www.bharathomestay.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/highway-traffic.jpg

My other half (note: I didn’t say “better” or “worse”) has been bitten by the travel bug for quite some time now. It all started in 2004 when we took our first real vacation in Goa…but then that’s another story… . It’s difficult to coordinate your vacations when you’re busy professionals. So, at the start of the year you look at the holiday list and mark the ‘long weekends’ promising yourselves that you’ll take full advantage of those at least. …

Delhi to Haridwar – A Night at the Gateway to the Gods

http://restlesssouls.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/ginger-11.jpg?w=300

As I said in my last post, we had no fixed agenda for our return to Delhi from Rishikesh. As we were entering the town of Haridwar, we saw a cheerful looking Ginger hotel beckoning us. So Ginger hotel Haridwar it was for us that night. This is a no-frills line of hotels from the Tata group that works on the concept of self-service at reasonable rates. They haven’t started the self check-in facility yet. We ushered ourselves into our …

Goan cuisine

Above all things good about Goa is its cusine…Oh! nothing can perhaps beat the xacuti and Sorpotel. The Goan cuisine is a blend of different influences that the Goans had to endure during the centuries. The staple food in Goa is fish and rice. All the more reason why I love Goa. If in Goa, act like a Goan — enjoy the food, drink and be happy. I’m really grateful to have a Goan as a friend. Although it’s very …
