THE GOOD, BAD AND UGLY OF INDIAN HOTELS, BED AND BREAKFASTS/ HOMESTAYS: Sometimes looks can indeed be deceptive. You check into a hotel that looked fantastic on the net, but when you actually land up there, the service was so lousy that you swear never to return. But sometimes even a budget hotel can give you splendid service and palatable food that you go home and brag about to all your friends. During our journeys to several places across India we stayed in hotels, bed and breakfasts/ homestays right from budget to luxurious and we have seen the good, bad and the ugly side of these properties. This section captures our experiences gathered at various places we’ve visited. You never know, they may just help you decide where to stay (or not) if you decide to visit these places. Of course, new places keep popping up now and then, and one can’t stay in all of them. So there may be places that have come up and are better or newer since our last visit. PLEASE NOTE: We love to be on the road and travel for travel’s pleasure, and what’s more, we’re non-demanding guests who are not overly fussy and usually overlook minor setbacks or flaws. clean bathrooms and bed linen are our top priorities. So if we don’t recommend a hotel, be assured there’s something really, really wrong.

During my last visit to Dehradun with a friend we ended up at Vishranti Resorts. Have been hearing a lot about this property, so we thought of checking it out. The resort is spread across a huge plot of land and was really well maintained. Although we didn’t stay there, […]

We’ve just got back from a week long trip to Uttarakhand and spent the last day in The Colonel’s Cottage, Mukteshwar. It was a last-minute decision taken while on the road. We read some reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to take the plunge. Anita (owner) was extremely cooperative and welcoming. […]
